Day 26 30 Paintings in 30 Days Sept 2016

Day 26,  30 Paintings in 30 Days Sept 2016

When this man bowed his head to pray in the local coffee, shop  I wondered what would happen. I watched with bated breath literally because this action could invite all kinds of trouble.

Talk ceased. Silence descended for a moment. Anything could  happen..

People stopped eating, drinking and talking one by one. The silence grew respectful, almost tender in feeling.

People waited quietly.

He raised his head and smiled gently at the people nearest him,  picked up his sandwich and took a bite. There was a barely heard general sigh.

People looked at each other sheepishly then began eating, drinking and talking. The noise grew to it's normal steady hum but the atmosphere was definitely lighter and calmer.

To my mind that prayer was both an act of faith and an act of bravery And for a moment united all kinds people of different colours, tempers and faiths together in a moment of thanksgiving.

When moments like that happen, the possibly of a loving, gentle, kind community raises its head and you know, you just know, that people are inherently good and given an opportunity will behave well toward each other.

It's humbling to be present for a moment like that.

Here is todays treasure
